grateful.

this past weekend i had the opportunity to take part in the 30 hour famine. An event created and facilitated through World Vision. The premise of the event was to fast for 30 hours in a way of bringing awareness to the issue of hunger and starvation that plagues third world countries. The junior high and high school group at church, Refuge Calvary Chapel Huntington Beach, raised money through sponsors, and we also held a car wash on Saturday to raise more funds. Both were very successful in raising a total over $2,500. It doesn’t seem like that much, but we actually raised enough money to feed seven children for an entire year. Did you know that $1 a day feed a child in third world country? That blows my mind, especially since I can’t even buy my favorite Starbucks drink for $1. Close, but not quite.

This event really hit home to me when thinking of how fortunate I am, and have been. No matter how low I’ve ever been, I am still so much better off than many. I’ve learned to take the time to say “Thanks”, to acknowledge God for his bountiful blessings in my life, and to not take things for granted. But I shouldn’t ever forget the images of children that suffer everyday.
